Well, this is a mystery. I can't find any listing for him besides the one at the CWGC.

I can't find him on the AWM ROH or the DVA WW2roll but there is a Militia service card digitized at the National Archives (NAA).

The 56thBn war diaries only begin in 1942.

    What am I missing here???

Amendment 1 - his death is recorded in the newspapers of the day, along with another Militiaman, Rupert Drummond. I can't find much on Drummond, he's not even listed by the CWGC.

He has a card digitized at the NAA - Drummond, Rupert John; Army Number - 432029; Date of birth - 29 January 1920

I might have to pass these details on to my contacts (fancy term for anyone that will read and answer my pestering emails) at some of the relevant departments to see if they has been overlooked. I think the status of CMF personnel in 1940 was not well-defined at the time but it sounds like they should have more records here in Australia
