Looking at the pic below taken at the 2nd Canadian Division return to Dieppe in September 1944. Can anyone help identify who might be in this photo. It looks like Brigadier Frederick Norman Cabeldu who commanded the Headquarters 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade might be out front. My dad who was a Lieutenant with the Essex Scottish and assigned to Brigade HQ was at the return to Dieppe and might be in the picture.Hard to tell as not a great copy. Does anyone know where I might find a better copy?
CBS reporter present wrote "In the Rue Claude Groulard, Dieppe, the 2nd Canadian Division marches past General Crerar" September 3, 1944 1944. Day of Glory as Canadians Take Dieppe (billdownscbs.com)
Thanks. The source link is from the “Canadian Army at War” Booklet (Chapter ‘V’) that’s available online. The actual photo was probably taken by the Canadian Army Overseas Film and Photo Unit. So far haven’t found a higher resolution copy online.
There are a couple of photographs from September 1944 on the LAC website, but not exactly that one that I can see. Entry of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division into Dieppe If the photo was taken by the unit above, it should be held by LAC.
Yep. I've looked at those but unfortunately the one with this view isn't available digitally from the LAC; and accessing LAC on-site is difficult for me. Hoping someone has a decent copy from the original.
