Hello, this boat was found in the river Rhine near Bislich/Xanten, where 15th Scottish division crossed the river on 24 March 1945 and where Royal Engineers units built three Bailey bridges between 24th March and May 1945. Any hint would be welcome...
Maybe one of the ships used by the Naval Units? Such as those used at Emmerich to pull segments of the Bailey Brigdes in place. See: RHINE CROSSING 1945: The Rees bridgehead (30 Corps in operation 'Turnscrew')
Hi stolpi - I asked about this boat a long time ago in this forum - no one was able to identify it yet. I have a few more photos at home - but I am travelling at the moment. Will post these when I`m back.
Some thoughts but no answers. The craft is clearly built of aluminium with some steel parts. The use of aluminium rules out a WW2 craft. It has a single propeller in a tunnel with a propeller guard underneath. This was for use in shallow water or near river banks. It was used on the standard Royal Engineers bridging motorboat/tug. These had wooden bodies similar to the standard bridging pontoon. I cannot see any British craft to match the photos. Perhaps US or W.German. Mike
