  1. Above mentioned CANLOAN officer is remembered at Groesbeek Netherlands. Reported MIA 02-10-1944. Later on Missing ,presumed dead.
Try to figure out during which operation R.N. Wilson was reported MIA.

The war diary for that date states “0800 Lt Wilson’s patrol from ‘B’ Coy ran into enemy positions at 407473. The patrol got split up, one part returning under Sgt Golding to ‘B’ Coy leaving Lt Wilson, one Bren gunner and one sniper behind.” Later at 1500 “The sniper left with Lt Wilson, returned with a bullet wound in his stomach. He had crawled back. He could supply no further information about Lt Wilson”. The map reference relates to a position just west of Vinkel, which is due east od ’S Hertogenbosch

  4. Yes this is the info I already found. Thanks anyhow for your response.

That is new. Strange is that he is MIA. Not found by Germans, Locals or own troops. Thanks for this info.

Herman - I’m sorry to say that it’s not at all strange. The body may well have been discovered and buried but when the Graves Concentration unit later recovered the body for reburial in a War Graves Cemetery there was insufficient information available on the remains to identify him and he would have been buried as an Unknown Soldier. Similarly the grave could have been disturbed or destroyed in later fighting.

  6. Indeed. You are right. My reaction was a bit ,,too fast,,. MIA, having ,,no known grave,, is more difficult to process for the relatives
