    Ris. Bashir Mohd Saddiqi - Military Cross citation for his action at the NGAKYEDAUK Pass on the night of 21/22 Feb 1944. Initially, Bashir was cited for an Indian award but changed to receive the Military Cross.

    Ris. Bashir Mohammad SADDIQI: enrolled Dec. 4, 1939; Jemadar May 15, 1941; date of promotion to Risaldar unknown. Lister in Apr. 1946 IAL but not in post-partition IALs; he either demobbed or opted for Pakistan.

    There was a lot of confusion about which awards were appropriate for whom in those days. The IOM was progressively sidelined as the IDSM was introduced and the VC was opened up to Indians. Then the IDSM was sidelined as the MM was approved for Indians in 1944.
