Really intersting about the Matilda, Alex.
What did the crew do to become "Tank of the four heroes"?
Is there any information on that?

Where they brand new Matildas sent to Russia or ones we British had used and replaced?

'Tank of the four heroes', or 'Coffin for four heroes/brothers'? I believe both terms were used....

'Thanks for those Alex, Particularly the captured vehicles, they've been a bit of a theme around here (love the 231, never seen that before).
Two of the shots have a strange shape covering up the markings, any idea if this is some kind of field recognition sign or, as seems more likely, just a bit of censorship by the photographer? (both pictures look like they're from the same source) I suppose it could even just be camouflage to confuse any enemy onlooker.:

No, in this case "A tank of four heroes" it's like an award, when "A coffin for seven" was nick of American M3 medium tanks

Has anybody seen the DVD Road to Berlin? My brother picked it up at a reduction of $39.95 to $5.00.

111 minutes of footage of the Russian Battles and the push to Germany in colour.

Facts, figures and the whole box and dice. Very well narrated.

Fail to understand the push on Churchills quote "this is not the end" on both sides of the cover as it Relates to El Alamein!

sorry, no data about their fate

Where they brand new Matildas sent to Russia or ones we British had used and replaced?

I knew they were new. At least no complains for receiving "shabby" vehicles are known to me....

    Alex

I prefer Russian movies. Western movies often follows mistakes in our ones and multiply the number of those... :D

Cheers again Alex, you are of course correct, should have double-checked rather than relying on memory.:Monkey:

I've never seen any reference to 'reconditioned' Valentines being sent, c.3.5k delivered (?) and If I remember rightly by the end of it's Canadian production virtually the entire output was sent straight to the soviets.

Yes, you are close to the truth. I can't remember amount of Canadian Valentines, though

Isn't this the same picture but on a better print? And doesn't it look like the vehicles are out of the workshop, as the wheels look like they're new or repainted?
It is indeed the same picture :).

I thought the wheels might be something more to do with recognition, the ones on the Panther particularly stand out, could be another handy way to 'shout' to ones own AT gunners "I'M ON YOUR SIDE!" ? The Panther behind that one is painted in the same odd way so I can't see it as a work in progress, more an intentional distinctive feature.

Out of 3487(?) sent in total, that really underlines the huge Canadian contribution to the war, as mentioned in your Canadian thread Spidge.
People often seem to neglect the huge amounts of Materiel Canada pumped out.
