Wednesday, March 29 2006 – American military men and women, who give their lives in service to the nation, deserve to be buried peacefully and with dignity. “America needs a chance to put its collective arms around these families and say, ‘you have the right to grieve peaceably and to bury your loved ones with dignity and respect,’” said U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, who is introducing legislation today to shelter grieving families from demonstrators trying to disrupt funeral services. http://www.mikerogers.house.gov/default.aspx

Unbelievable! Have there really been demonstrations at funerals??? Whatever they might feel about the circumstances how can anyone think they've any right to trample over peoples personal grief.... ? (Insert very rude word beginning with C here for anyone who thinks they have.) Adam.
Disgusting state of affairs. What sort of ******* do that at a funeral? No family should have to put up with that.
Sadly, these demonstrations are being done by a Reverend Fred Phelps, who claims that GI deaths in Iraq are God's vengeance upon the US for homosexuality and AIDS. His "church," which mostly consists of his many kids, goes to high-profile events, like the Matthew Shepard trial, to denounce gays, which they see everywhere. They are beyond homophobic. Phelps himself used to be an instructor at a faith-based university. He was told that the only way he could stay on staff was if he got psychiatric help for his bizarre behavior. He quit instead. Very scary individual. I think he deserves a swift kick in the rear for this dishonorable behavior. :mad111:
Just looked at his Westboro Baptist Church website....(I don't reccomend it) Jesus H... Mentalists....

In case anyone's intrigued Louis Theroux is on UK Television BBC2 visiting these utter nutters at the moment... I'm absolutely amazed people aren't constantly taking potshots at the slime.
There is a biker group and others that have been going to the funerals to forma human shield between the nujobs and funeral party. I understand that they have been effective. It irritates me so much to see the faith I hold so dearly twisted and perverted by Phelps. Unfortunately freedom of conscience applies to all in this country, even when it promotes evil. There are other groups that are just as distasteful that I would like to see placed off shore, but regrettably that will never happen.
