I've searched to see if this has been mentioned before but can't find it. I was searching for something un-connected with it but thought you'd like a look. WorldWar2.ro - Romanian Army in the Second World War Some good memoirs from Romanian Veterans. WorldWar2.ro - Memoirs and diaries I found this to be thought provoking. WorldWar2.ro - Romanian answer to the British ultimatum of 30 November 1941 European Politics can be very complicated can't it , Allies become Enemies, Enemies become Allies. The UK Government offers support to one country but has to withdraw it when the rules of the game change.
Great Thread Owen. Just been looking at their equipment pages and it seems that they used Hawker Hurricanes and Bristol Bleinheims as well as ex-Polish Potez bombers. Throw in the German aircraft as well and it gives you one of the mnost diverse Air forces of the War. Fascinating indeed.
One of the saddest aspects of the whole war was that Britain was unable to hold up its guarantees to the countries of Eastern Europe such as Poland, Czechoslovakia and as above Romania.
Until Hitler turned up, I suppose the main potential enemy was Communist Russia. The UK offered guarantees that it couldn't keep once Nazi-Germany became prime-suspect, would you agree?
True but I have always maintained (and I still hold true to this) that Britain/Commonwealth and France were the only nations that went to war to stop Hitler. They took the moral high ground to help the Eastern Europeans. It is to their credit that they did this.
Just looking over that site again and see that the Germans never gave them any armor save for some battleworn Pz 38's in 1943. And they expected the Romanians to hold the Flanks for 6th Army with no armor?? Madness and uber-arrogance.
