    Hi
My father has a picture of my grandfather with a group of Royal Artillery men out side a pub,the picture isn't that good but at the front there is a guy that seems to be in the SAS, now I know that the SAS was formed in 1941, and this picture he has got is 1942/43.
As the picture isn't that good i have attached a picture i have put together of the man's right arm which has at the top the royal artillery badge followed by a parachute then the SAS badge then the Serjeant strips.
Would anybody have a list of RA boys in the SAS at that time.
    thanks
    Keith

Keith, at least two if not three of my local Widnes men joined 1 SAS. They where originally territorials with 216 Bty, 70 HAA Regt, which was stationed in the Orkneys in 1941.

7 of the Regiment went to selection with 11 Comando and served under Paddy Mayne, a number then went with him to 1 SAS.

Geoff Caton & Richard Myler are two I can name of the top of my head

Thanks P for that info, what I will do is get that picture from my dad and try and make it clear and post it on line, the group of men outside the pub with this guy were 53rd medium Regt RA 209 Bty.

The insignia you have shown is not right SAS badge would not be worn on the sleeve.......not offically anyway and depending on exact dates of pic.... pegasus flash would be worn with Airborne strip, wings are right as is RA strip but somthing is amiss!

Flames from the sword. Originally drawn by Sergeant Tait, depicting Excaliber coming out of a fire. Or so my sources insist.

Some artillery men pictured with SAS style wings were in fact members of the RSR - Raiding Support Regiment who shared the same parachute wings as those worn by the SAS. The RSR was deployed to Greece, Alabania, Yugoslavia and the Adriatic Islands.

    Hi Jedburgh22

    Thanks for the info
