Hi, I am trying to research 2325111 Signalman, later WO2, PF Mcadam who served in palestine in 1938/39 and was later taken POW during WW2 (POW number 220312 Stalag 344). Does anybody have any information on where he may have been captured? Or any idea which unit he may have served with in palestine? Any help or guidance appreicated, Thanks in advance, Rick
Hi, Hopefully Brian will be able to help with the PW stuff. The obvious path at cost would be to apply for his service records which will ID the units he was posted to, other than that there is very little information available on Signals during WW2. Have you considered emailing the Corps museum at Blandford? Andy
Hi, thanks for the quick reply, do you have an e mail address for the museum at Blandford? Cheers, Rick
I have him as a P.O.W. in Italy in 1943. Sgm. McAdam P F 2325111 is listed as being in PG 78 in 1943 but would have been in other Camps earlier.
Rick, He is also listed as P.O.W. No. 220312 at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf in September 1944 and again in 1945 at the same Camp. As Drew says the way forward is with a copy of his Service Record. Brian
Rick, The ICRC can also help. They will provide details - possibly only to family members; I can't recall. ICRC Archives Roxy
info@royalsignalsmuseum.com I've got the archivists somewhere but can't find it. He only works Wednesdays the last time I spoke to him, so a reply may take sometime. Keep us posted with anything you find out, I'm always interested in RCS stuff (as long as its not about Radio's)
I'm always interested in RCS stuff (as long as its not about Radio's) You mean I have to restore my WS38 by myself then?
For the record I hate Radio's and anything to do with them The 12 ft. whip antenna on the WS38 pack attracted gunfire, apparently. A later version was used in tanks (WS38 AFV)
