    Hi everyone,

I am researching on behalf of the flintshirewarmemorials.com and we are trying to find out how/why John Edward GRIFFITHS died in 1942, he is remembered on the Sychdyn WW2 War Memorial, Flintshire.:-

    Private
    GRIFFITHS, JOHN EDWARD
    Service Number S/90858
    Died 30/12/1942
    Aged 46
    Royal Army Service Corps

Son of David and Emily Griffiths; husband of Constance Evelyn Griffiths, of Mold.

    INSCRIPTION

IN THE MIDST OF LIFE WE ARE IN DEATH

    Buried at MOLD CEMETERY
    Location: Flintshire, United Kingdom
    Number of casualties: 19
    Cemetery/memorial reference: Sec. H. Grave 44.

We cannot find any information how he died, nor indeed about his Army Service, we think that we may have found his death certificate:-

Cheshire Death indexes for the years: 1943
Surname Forename(s) Age or Date of Birth Year Sub-District Registers At Reference
GRIFFITHS John Edward 45 1943 Chester City Cheshire West CHE/11/7

We wondered if you could possibly help, even one clue would be great, as we want to make sure that he is remembered.

    Regards

The Army Roll of Honour 1939-1945 on ancestry does not add much:

    Name:
    John Griffiths
    Given Initials: J E
    Rank: Private
    Death Date: 30 Dec 1942
    Number: 90858
    Birth Place: Flintshire
    Residence: Flintshire
Regiment at Enlistment: Royal Army Service Corps
    Branch at Enlistment: Other Corps
    Theatre of War: United Kingdom
Regiment at Death: Royal Army Service Corps
    Branch at Death: Other Corps

His service number was issued by the RASC 1920 onwards & before 27 October 1939 (no 100694 issued on that day). and the S prefix indicates he was in the Supplies branch.
Army Numbers - British Army Numbers of WW2

The S prefix indicates he was in the Supplies branch.

With an indicated birth year range of Dec1895/Dec 1896 he probably also served in WW1.
