I missed this review by Anthony Beevor last week. The sub-title is: He ends with: Link: ‘This is rock-star history!’ – Antony Beevor on the gung-ho brilliance of SAS Rogue Heroes

In a long (x17) Tweets series Gavin Mortimer @PhoneyMajor remarks about David Stirling's capture (alas not converted to non-Twitter users to access). However this photo may interest readers. The caption reads:

Interesting also his note on the accuracy of what happened to the French SAS. I have somewhere in my files a set of interrogation notes by German intel of the German who (I think) ratted them out, but can for the life of me not locate them, and didn't take a note when I glanced through them originally as I did not think they would become of interest. Drives me round the bend when that happens. All the best Andreas
Found it, and it was the guy who ratted them out. Yes, I haven't gone mad and imagining things! Close to 15 pages of his interrogation report by the staff of Fliegerführer. All the best Andreas
Andreas, Did the German 'rat' explain when and why he defected? I am assuming he was not a long term infiltrator.
He was a long-term infiltrator according to his statement. Captured 27 Nov 41 at the Italian hospital on the Trigh Capuzzo, together with a mate (who was also part of the patrol). Mate volunteered for service with the British, and he went along, according to him, with the aim to defect as soon as feasible. There's obviously a factor of 'but he would say that, wouldn't he'. All the best Andreas
SAS hero is 'turned into someone he wasn't' in new BBC series, family says Fiona Ferguson, the niece of Lieutenant Colonel Blair "Paddy" Mayne, said there was "more" to her uncle than a "drunk Irishman". "There is no denying he did drink, but that wasn't him," she told The Daily Telegraph. "The family have released previously unseen pictures of Paddy Mayne"
An open access edition of the comments made by Fiona Ferguson, Paddy Mayne's niece: BBC 'SAS Rogue Heroes' Series Typecasts Blair 'Paddy' Mayne As A 'Drunk Irishman,' Says His Niece
Seems it's "based" on true events, but obviously flowered up to fit the narrative. Having said that, perceptions of family members are not always the same perceptions held by others, don't like the music......it just doesn't fit.......
