I got this postcard today in a bundle of Military ones and wanted all of your opinions. I personally think he is a Scout Leader. It is very old as you can see 1910-1914. I no this is of topic but it is interesting. Any scout experts here?.... It reads in the bottom corner Arthur S. Trudgett S.M. X1th Westham Troop 1910-1914. I believe it was taken in Ilford.

There is a chap who served in the First World War named Arthur Trudgett who was with the Liverpool Regiment then Labour Corps, possibly him?

I'd say Scouts. The hat is of the style of the scout movement of the time, it mentions 'XIth Westham Troop' with no reference to a Corps or Regiment, there are no standard badges of rank despite his age and no unit, formation or cap badge.

Just a thought, but Where's the Ilford from Donnie? If it's printed on the paper don't forget Ilford were major manufacturers of photographic materials for over a century.

    Hi guys,

I would agree he is scouts PP.......on the back of the card it says "F.W. Clark, Photographer, Forest Gate & Ilford......i may have assumed that this was where it was taken...though its more likely to have been taken in Westham :D......is there an archive for scout leader types anywhere?

I was a member of (Since you asked) 96 Cadet Battery, Royal Artillery. I left a 3 star Bombardier at the age of 16.....I had to go and get a job ;)

As it says SM after his name I assume that is Scout Master.

    HI guys,

Just an update, i have emailed the chairman of the North East London Scouts and am awaiting a reply. It seems that Mr Trudgett was a pretty big player in the early scout movement.
