    Hello

    Can anyone help, i am looking for information on my uncle kia in tunisia in 1943.

    His details are

    Private Roger Payne | War Casualty Details | CWGC
    Roger Payne age 19
    Private 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment.
    11th Infantry Brigade - 78th 'Battleaxe Division'
    KIA 14/04/1943 Buried Medjez El Bab cemetary

    I have not been able to find any inforamtion on the events of that day, can anyone help.

    Blimey yet another 78th div query!
    Right from page 47 of Algiers to Austria by Cyril Ray, the divisional history.


    On the morning of April 9th the East Surreys , with the Lancashire Fusiliers and tanks of 142 RAC , occupied Chaouach , and April 14-15 saw the same brigade (11) - with the Royal West Kents from 36 - engaged in the heaviest fighting of the battle , for the hills Tanngoucha and Djebel el Ang, the two 3000-foot ridges that overlooked Longstop and Medjez.

    Thanks Owen for the information you supplied, is the book you mentioned still available? as i'd be interested in obtaining a copy.

    I have started the ball rolling in regards to obtaining his service records hopefull that will answer my questions regarding his early movements etc. However can anyone suggest any other sources of information in regards to the campaign in general? all i have been able to find is Ken Fords book and some minor articles on the internet.
