Hi everyone. I am researching the Battle of Rimini September 1944 and the search for a buried Tiger 1 tank.

There were several tank battles between Canadian tanks and the schwere panzer abteilung 504 south of Rimini around Coriano and also a tank battle in the centre of town as the germans withdrew.

Any information of the canadian units taking part and german losses would be gratefully recieved.

    Mark.

Op OLIVE ran for nearly a month. What part of Sep are you looking for. 1 (Cdn) Corps were not committed until mid-Sep 44 - off the top of my head.

    Regards

On the 16th of September and after being joined by elements of 2./Schwere Panzer Abteilung 504 take up positions around Coriano which is just south of Rimini facing Canadian troops who have just broken through the Gothic line. Tank strength 23.

On the 17th, three tigers are lost in combat against the Canadians in the olive tree fields of San Martino Monte L'Abate, near to Coriano.

Tiger 1 ‘200’…At 2130 hours on 18 September 1944, elements of the 1st Canadian Corps crossed the Ausa river, placing the Germans in a situation which could have led to them being surrounded. Understanding this the Germans withdrew from the ridge, abandoning many of their vehicles in the process. Among the German casualties that day was Tiger I №200 from schwere Panzer-Abteilung 504. It had previously been damaged by Canadian artillery strikes and was abandoned by its crew in the face of rapid Canadian advancements.

Tiger 1 ‘211’ is destroyed by sergeant armstong of the royal Canadian tank corps.

Tiger I №334 belonged to 3. Kompanie, schwere Panzer-Abteilung 504 and was blown up by its crew after it broke down southeast of Rimini near Riccione, Italy. It was photographed with New Zealand soldiers on 18 September 1944.

On the 18th of September, an enemy attack is repulsed with 7 enemy tanks being destroyed. Both units are forced to retreat over the Marecchia river.
