He had tremenous moral courage and endevour to achieve what he did at a time when many adults seeking asylum were being turned away.

    A remarkable legacy.

I was looking him up in Righteous Among the Nations but no luck. Reading more carefully he was of Jewish ascent himself so he couldn't qualify. In the end that doesn't matter much, he wasn't looking for honours but honour was what he got anyway. This is one of a list we know about, may God hold the souls of those we don't.

    War hero memorial

ROYAL Borough councillors have agreed to brainstorm ideas to create a permanent tribute from the council in memory of Maidenhead man Sir Nicholas Winton who died at the age of 105 on July 1 this year.
Councillors at a full council meeting on Tuesday unanimously approved a motion from Cllr Derek Wilson for the borough to create a lasting memorial with councillors resolving to throw open ideas to the public.
Sir Nicholas lived in Maidenhead for more than 66 years and was given the Freedom of the Borough in 1999 for his heroism in saving 699 Czechslovakian children from the Nazis on the eve of the Second World War.

I've just watched the news item about Sir Nicholas Winton's thanksgiving service. Generations to come will remember him for many years to come.

Sad that they have to sell things off. Would be nice if a museum could put them on display for people. Then again, in the current climate maybe they wouldn't want to celebrate the life of a man who brought child refugees into the country.

Tremendous understated hero. And who knew Esther Rantzen would co-ordinate a fitting tribute.

    Thanks for the info.

I shall follow this thread with interest as he was a super chap, modest to the core and it was a supreme pleasure to have met him in the flesh.
