Royal Marine landing party issued with ammunition, HMS York, 'Northern Waters', 1943. (As ever) I found these whilst looking for other stuff in the IWM photos - I can't help thinking they'd be useful to someone. Enjoy - rare feature of the Lanchester MC and extended web pouches. Top photo 2nd from left Corporal seems to be holding an air rifle. On closer examination a No 8 .22 or an SMG with wooden furniture. One for the Small Arms weapon experts.
It's a Lanchester, As Ceol said. I love Lanchesters. Should've bought that proper brass deac a decade back...
For those like me who didn't know. I was closer with my original comment a Sten Derivative with wooden furniture. Lanchester submachine gun - Wikipedia.
No Sten heritage. An Mp28 copy. Pretty much directly, excepting brass components on earlier marks as the navy took it on. Looks its best in full bayonet order.
I had 3 Deac Lanchesters over the years, they were really cracking pieces of kit such quality especially compared to the Stens I had - also had the pouches (think I still have a pair) and a set of 6 spare mags, they can't have been the most comfortable thing to wear when fully loaded - my deacs all went when the law changed a few years ago
