2nd Army Reinforcement Group (which as I understand it was composed of both RAC and RA personnel) had one member referred to as "SORA", Major Edge-Partington. Do you think it likely that that simply means "Staff Officer Royal Artillery"? e.g. from the 2 ARG WD - July 8 - Major I Edge-Partington SORA with Lt Col Tapley SEME visited 266 Forward Delivery Squadron to study possibility of converting Crusader AA tanks into 17 pr Gun Towers. This can NOT be done quickly.
SEME is usually School (of) Electrical & Mechnical Engineering, so could SORA be School Of Royal Artillery?
That is a very interesting thought! It is certainly seems possible, as one of his responsibilities was evidently overseeing at a high level the detachment which trained SP drivers.
Hi From the UK Commands Staff Lists - Online at (116) - Army lists > Quarterly Army Lists (Second Series), July 1940-December 1950 > 1944 > First quarter > Part 1 > Volume 1 - British Military lists - National Library of Scotland SEME isn't there but, following convention, it more than likely stands for Staff (Officer) Electrical (and) Mechanical Engineers. Hope this helps Gus
SORA is indeed Staff Officer Royal Artillery. RA abbreviations are a minefield, so much so, I wrote the book on them.
