The designation of the various 'types' of Special Wireless Sections depended upon their allocation:

Type A was allocated to Army Headquarters.

Type B was allocated to Corps Headquarters.

Type R and Type Z functioned as relay sections.

Type G was the single experimental section.

The Special Wireless Section appear to have alternated between the various types during the course of the war.

SWS 107 was deployed to UK, Tunisia with V Corps, Italy with X Corps 1944-1945.
