Spring has Sprung

Yes bamboo43 , I am privileged to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

 

I've lived in the western suburbs of London my whole life and now I am fortunate indeed to live near the Thames, Hampton Court, Richmond and Bushy Royal Parks and Twickenham Stadium. However, London is now quite a scruffy and grimy place more or less throughout, so I envy your outlook and fresh air.

 

Your post reminded me of my last job as a Grounds Manager. Every spring the heavy cricket roller would come out of hibernation around mid-March early April and as I drove it out of the garage a family of young swifts used to launch from their nest in the pavilion clock tower and playfully dive-bomb me as I ambled to the first cricket square. It was both sweet and hilarious. There seemed to always be a new family every year, so the clock tower must have served well as a home.

Now one could say that spring has arrived here in Southern Finland, the first native flowers have appeared. I saw the first ones last Thursday, a couple of lesser celandines and several coltsfeet.




I haven't come across any new ones, so the flowers have only been seen in particularly favorable places. I haven't come across any new ones even though I've taken a couple of longer walks. The general view is still quite bleak as the trees don't have any leaves yet. The reason is probably that it has still been a mildly frosty most nights.









I noticed the first garden escapees already on 27 March.

 

All the flowers and trees are looking very 'spring like' and it's warm when the sun is out, but there ain't arf a sharp cool wind blowing oop North .

 

I'm feeling a bit under the weather this morning so the pooch got her early walk with 'mum'.

 

Someone is calling for nuts!
