Here is a link to the state archiv of Czech Republic and the region of Litomericich ... if you search there for wistritz you will find all information about the people who lived in Wistritz in digital documents

Beforehand it is hard to read ... most of it is in german but in an old german style of handwriting

    Archivní vademecum SOA v Litoměřicích

By the way ... I also visited 6 different graveyards in Dubi (also on the mountain) Graupen Bohosudov and Novosedlice (most people from Wistritz were buried there) to find any information about my family. It was really difficult to find something because the graves their are totally confused and disordered. F.e. most of the time I found old german graves (most of the time the names were no longer recognizable, but the pictures of the people on the grave stones sometimes quite good) before 1945. Today on one old german graves you will find four or six new graves. But the old grave stone is still there. Really curious but also kind of fascinating and like a little adventure:

One thing I DID NOT find were graves of foreign names (russian, english, french, dutch) So I do not think that prisoners who died during their time in the Stalag IV C were buried on the "official" cemetery.

I have only just signed up for this forum but I believe I can answer a question for a couple of your readers. My father I think was taken prisoner at Tobruk. His name was George Thompson. He was taken to camp pg78 Simon's and then from there to Stalag 1Vc. I have letters written to him from my mother and other family members so I know just where he was. I too have a photograph of the funeral in the camp 1vc. My father tools me it was the funeral of American airmen. They were told they had been shot down but when he and others sneaked into the Church before the funeral they saw they had all been shot. He could never work out why they all had to attend the service and why they were all given photos of it. In my photo all the prisoners were lined up behind the camera and the guards and members of the AS stood behind the coffins.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

If your reference to the funeral photo refers to my 2017 post I can confirm that it was established that the funeral was at a Lamsdorf work camp E793 after 30+ POW were killed by American bombers in December 1944. One of the coffins had E793 chalked on it.

    Possible Lamsdorf POW Funeral Photos

I’m sure members would like to see your photographs if you could upload them.

My photo is the same as one of yours. The third one. My father was never in Lamsdorf but told me of the funeral. I have done more searching myself. The men were killed near Leipzig Feb 27th 1945. They were buried Stalag 1vc at mass funeral . If you look at Almany photos on line the daughter of the soldier who brought them back days they are stamped on the reverse Stalag 1VC .and The delegate of The Protecting Power regrets having to report the deaths of 24 British prisoners of war. who during the air raid on Leipzig on Feb 27th 1945 were killed These POWs were in well built slip trenches with their German guards but received a direct but and were killed imediately.
My father remembered going to the funeral and getting the photos and I promised him I would try and find out more about them.

Even if the date is wrong the place isn't.
