My friend Stan was a pow in forsoma and worked in the copper mines , he is 95 yrs old and 7 years ago he finally opened up and started talking about his war years and today he has finally given me permission to mention him on here. He was in the 11th brigade . Stan has finally let his daughter write his horrific story down and now his story is finally told and at the moment he does not want it to go to print. Recently he went back to Thailand and attended a reunion where he met up with 5 other X POWs , they visited the former camp sites , the memorials and after dinner Stan and his friends were each asked to say a few words and Stan got a standing ovation for what he said. He is a fantastic bloke and still gardening and enjoying his life but his memories still don't allow him to sleep . When I am having my cuppa with him and he starts to mention his experiences I have to bite my lip and try my hardest not to cry but he also makes me laugh he really is a lovely chap and one day his daughter and I hope he gives us permission to set up a web page so his story or as Stan says their story (his comrades as he calls them) can be shared . It is amazing that after all those years of horrific treatment he came home to his wife and outwardly lived a normal life and Stan says the only sad thing he feels today is that the children all over the world are still suffering in various wars and after world war 2 he cannot believe that politicians are still too fast to go to war.
