Is it possible to find out where a person was temporarily buried before they where moved to a war grave? From what iv read alot of local familys adopted the fallen and gave them a temporary grave. Is there anyway to find such information?
Ka7en, You are in luck as this question popped up in the last week, I think by an Italian member Vitellino and the CWGC have records of where an original grave was before 'concentration'.
Check the CWGC link to see if there is a Concentration report. Many of these have map references giving location of field burial. One example linked here. My father was involved in burying this man along with other casualties for his regiment that day; their bodies were moved a year later to a CWGC cemetery. Casualty Details | CWGC
Hi! Obviously I know what this is referring to, on the CWGC site you’ll see the grid reference of original burial site. That location was in Maasbree for Mr Moss. Dutch families have adopted graves of soldiers killed liberating their country and tend to the graves in their own time etc etc. Alex.
