    Hi All,

Bovington yesterday I did take a good few photos, and for the Tiger that might not be out at Tankfest 2011 here is the reason why... Took about 100 of the Heavy Tigers...

    Cheers

i managed to get a peek inside the beast and it is quite an unusual interior, inside the hull is a large open box shaped area with the main gun in the middle, each corner had an elevated position. the hull besa gunner is front left, commander rear left, driver front right and upper besa gunner rear right. on the hull floor is the gunner to the left of the main gun and a couple of bods would have been towards the rear as loaders, these positions are only my assumptions so the upper rear positions maybe the other way round and also one of them would have been the wireless op but you get the general idea.
it would have been interesting to see how it faired against the large german tanks in battle but in reality it's size and weight are just not practical for a tank, still an impressive site though.

What a fantastic day out! Loved it. Loads to do and see. The Tortoise was one of the highlights.
Thought there was more people than I've ever seen before there this year.

    Hi all,

I was just looking at some movies on the net of the Tortoise running last year.
It looks like there is a small muffler on the back left corner of the gun casement. Is there a small gasoline engine in there for some reason?

    Just curious. Thanks,

    Dave

Well, every day I pass by two Light Tank M5 gate guards, so I have a little consolation :D

What surprised most of us last year was how fast the Tortoise actually moved. A classic case of 'expect the unexpected' or 'don't judge everything by its appearances'.

Anyone attending Bovvy for Tankfest should do themselves a big favour and drop in to say hello to Sapper and Sheila - you will never regret meeting them - and he might even have batteries in his camera - who knows ...!

they are in the book at Swanage - Hill Street as I recall - less than ten miles away from Bovvy
    Cheers

    Dave 55 -

The small gas engine was used to keep the batteries at full charge when idle for long - but what you are probably looking at was the small gas cooker for tea and meals
but we used the Bengazi Kettle for tea - much quicker as time was of the essence

    Cheers
