But then you do, occasionally, display a fine sense of humour

    .
I really wouldn't wish that for myself. Seems a bit of a curse. Damned by some for not acting like real human beings and damned by others for actually doing so. Admired by me for simply carrying on regardless of the vagaries of popular opinion.

Ref Worship on bended knee, and balance: don't know about the rest who posted here, but not in my case and I'll just leave it at.

I am sure the Queen or Royals didn't give a hoot. They are grown up enough to understand

London is rammed with tourists and their first point of call is the Royal residence and associated points of interest.
Brings in a lot of money to the country

I don't think we worship them just respect them.

Blimey if this is all we have to worry about I'm up for that

I can see the funny side as well.

However, I went fishing this morning and the guy to my left, used the F word in every sentence for nearly two hours of incessant talking to his friend. That's when it's really unpleasant and not at all amusing.

Having moved to a new house recently, a young Mother close by also chooses to scream at her children using liberal doses of this expletive as well. A great example to them as they grow up.

“Now don’t let us give ourselves a parcel of airs and pretend that the oaths we make free with in this land of liberty of ours are our own; and because we have the spirit to swear them,—imagine that we have had the wit to invent them too.”—Tristram Shandy.

I thought it was funny. I'm sure he was saying what most of the others were thinking.

I respect the Queen. Philip is Greek (a Cretin) and without our support would be just as bankrupt as Greece!

Edit: me and my dyslexia, not, 'Cretin', 'Cretan'!?!

    Yeah, I know Tom...

Just trying to be provocative as this thread is too 'dry' by far. Surely, people have polarised opinions about him. I actually have nothing against the man.

Didn't spitting image have him pegged as a Mykonos beach bum?

I loved watching Spitting Image and the sarcastic humour that it brought.

They took the P... out of any prominent including, Presidents, Politicians and the Royal Family!

Well done Sir and I hope it is a long and enjoyable retirement.

I wish him well in retirement.
Both the Queen and the Duke have been stalwarts in the Royal Family over many years.
I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Duke during the Queens Royal Visit to
    Germany the other year.
The Duke was most attentive and very sharp considering his age.

He'll need to sit down with all that weight of awards!
A suit of armour would probably weigh less.

I believe that the Duke of Edinburgh has around six honours now, all bestowed by HRH the Queen.
A lot of his medals were earned during WW2 so every respect to him.
Also HRH the Queen also played her part in WW2.
