I just watched this movie today in theaters. I thought it was really good. For those of you who may not have heard of this film, its about a rescue effort to free about 500 American POW's (511 to be exact) from a Japanese POW camp in Baatan, Phillipenes. It made me kind of wonder why something like this wasnt more widely known in the first place. I would really recommend this movie.
I agree Edge, I thought this film was great. I had read the book Ghost Soldiers (Which is one of the books the movie is based on) prior to seeing it in the theater. When I first saw it I loved it and when I rented it when it came out on DVD I loved it even more. Especially with the documentaries on the actual events and veterans of the POW camp where they give cool inside information like a nickname the men of the camp had for eachother, "The badly beaten bastards of Baatan. No mama, no papa, no Uncle Saam." I'm also surprised on why this story isn't well heard of since it is the greatest rescue mission in U.S. military history.
We discussd this a while ago at the site below. Any questions, let us know. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5415 Geoff

I rented this one over the weekend and I was pretty impressed. My only compaint is that the subplot with Margaret and the ranking P.O.W. (I've forgotten his name) seemed a little forced. Other than that, it was a great film.

Cant get it in UK either, says programme unavailable. sorry mate try this other works for me as does this one BBC iPlayer - The Great Raid
Saw it tonight. Not great but pretty good. I give it a 7. Weapons on both sides looked correct to me. I usually like Benjamin Bratt but he was overacting so much that it was distracting. The Great Raid (2005) - IMDb
I've not seen the film mentioned above, but the short film taken just after the raid is haunting. Luzon - Swoop On Jap Prison Camp Releases 500 "Sergeant Robert Bell from Burnley" refers to the sinking of the Hofuku Maru, for which see this thread: Hofuku Maru
