A friend is considering constructing a model of the ship S.S Shelton and would like to know a little of her history, ie shipping line, years in service, fate and did she serve in WW2? Any help would be appreciated Peter
Peter, is this of any use? S.S. Shelton - City of Vancouver Archives S.S. Shelton, years 1932-1934 - Guide to the Pacific Coast Steamship Companies Collection
Thanks Nicks but I have seen your links during my search on the web, can’t seem to find much else about the ship. Thanks for looking
Kahuku (American Steam merchant) - Ships hit by German U-boats during WWII - uboat.net History Completed in November 1920 as Cuprum for US Shipping Board (USSB). 1928 renamed Shelton for Tacoma-Oriental SS Co, Tacoma WA. 1937 renamed Kahuku for Matson Navigation Co, San Francisco CA. Date of attack 16 Jun 1942 Fate Sunk by U-126 (Ernst Bauer) TD Crewlist from Kahuku (American steam merchant) - Ships hit by German U-boats during WWII - uboat.net
I thought she might be a Hog Islander, an American WW1 standard ship; but the Vancouver photo suggests not.
