Here is an item in my collection that I’m currently researching but unfortunately there isn’t much online about the VAD in WW2.

It is a matching tunic and trousers to a Wiltshire area 19 Cadet Officer in the VAD. I cannot find any other examples of this exact pattern of uniform however from what I can see I believe it to be an inter-war uniform as seen by holes in the epaulets for older style brass shoulder titles however these have clearly been removed and replaced with WW2 era cloth style patches. I believe the ‘British’ shoulder title shows this Gentleman served overseas, he also has what appear to be Long Service/ Good Conduct awards on his lower right sleeve. There is also a white lanyard on the right shoulder which I have been told was most likely for a whistle although a rank related uniform piece was also suggested. From what I can see only 2000 male officers served with the VAD in WW2 but this doesn’t match the images I can see, so could be far more scarce, and appears to be a mix of the WW1 and WW2 patterns hence why believe it’s an inter-war pattern. The inside of the tunic is very nicely lined.

I hope I’ve posted this in the correct place but I cannot find a page already dedicated to the VAD in WW2. I’m happy to make this the beginning of one, however.

I have tried emailing The Red Cross archive department but I have as of yet not received a reply. I want to make this aware to the archives of such organisations for reference as I’ve searched through their records and still cannot find a uniform like this pattern. Therefore I feel this could perhaps be a museum piece?

I will try and contact St Johns as other collectors say they have had assistance from their archive department.

    Many Thanks,
    Tom

The website you linked above is the only really helpful site I found during initial research but still not much information regarding specific uniforms etc.

    Thanks again,

May I ask why my post has been moved into ‘Women Of WW2’?
My post is about male’s WW2 uniform. The point of the post was to raise awareness of Males serving in the VAD and to try to identify the uniform. I posted this in ‘General’ as there didn’t seem to be a thread dedicated to the VAD in WW2, I do not think this post at all belongs in ‘Women Of WW2’.
