I have been blessed with a full set of the hardcover volumes of The War Illustrated. My question is, should I have any concerns about this publication? I don't suspect anything, but should I?
No I don't think so mate. I've got volume 1. Copies of number 4,5,6 & 17. All original paper copies. You should see the edges. Dried, yellow and cracking. I daren't touch them.

How do you mean 'suspect' OP? I've seen a few, and outside of the normal viewpoint of the time and it's effect on editorial they seem pretty interesting. This chap's digitising a fair few: The War Illustrated (Seem to recall he signed up here a while back - may be wrong). The WW1 variant: War Illustrated Or is what you have a modern publication?

"suspect" as in "what's it's reputation"? However, having ploughed through a fair bit now I'm satisfied that it's kosher. And we're up to Jan 3, 1941 now. I'll continue doing one volume a week until all 12 volumes are online. It's a really pleasure, btw, to see what Mr. Britain was seeing every Friday. I get sidetracked from the scanning by a "tasty" article on the forlorn hope units at Dunkirk or the people who rescued animals from the Blitz.
Would like to see this one! Volume 4 - No. 74 - January 31, 1941 As Tobruk Falls, Mussolini's Empire Crumbles Cheers Geoff

The War Illustrated Archive (OP - great work but couldn't see a link on your homepages.) Still a work in progress. We usually do those links when the whole shooting match is uploaded. It saves a few brazillion emails asking "where's the meat!" And you guys get easier access to the sites when it's not well publicized.
What a brilliant resource. Thanks for sharing Opana. Andy It's been a lot of fun. The current run includes the W.D. fighting, and there are many pix there I've not seen before. My old prof. at Purdue is mining the site for images for his WWII class.
I demand that you print this all out for me... by Thursday!! More great stuff OP. Just been reading a 1940 report on the Finnish/Russian busines - amazing how things shifted in the propaganda & public information spheres as the war progressed. http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/TWI/TWI-40-04-05.pdf

Volume Six upload complete. (If you downloaded the first five issues as they were loaded you might want to fix the filenames. )
Great stuff OP and thanks again for all that hard work - you might have noticed that I'm having a ball going through them !
