So sorry to hear of Tom's passing. He was a great help with my own research; he always made time for everyone. I hope he enjoyed the material I sent him. He will be greatly missed.

Tom would have celebrated his 93 birthday yesterday. A tip of my hat to say hello to an old friend.

Tom introduced me to this forum after seeing my post on the BBC History Forum.
He set me a riddle to arrive at his email address and the rest is history.
He was also a great help with my late fathers Records and stated that when he was badly injured and in the rear of an ambulance he could see the intense battle still taking place. He added that my father would have been there as the 4th Recce were supporting his Divisions Churchill tanks.
I will always hold fond memories of Tom and was aware that he could be rather abrasive with his comments, but they always got you thinking.

    RIP Tom.

Lesley (Jonboy) posted an acknowledgment of Tom's birthday in the 'members' space a couple of days ago. She's a "diamond".

17th, Oldman and Tom - words can't express how much I miss Tom Canning. Choked still!

    RIP Tom Canning.

I still miss Tom's contributions to this forum. He was never dull, always interesting and, for me, the very epitome of Samuel Johnson's old adage, "I never think I've hit hard unless It rebounds!"

It certainly does not seem over two years that Tom Canning passed away.
I too miss his posts and can well imagine what he would be thinking about the current state of parliament and Brexit negotiations.
The great thing about this forum is that people such as Tom are always with us in our thoughts and are never forgotten.
    RIP Tom

I have read some of his posts and comments since joining and it is evident I have sadly missed a wonderful character. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves.

AND I so wanted to talk to you but came far, FAR, too late to the forum. You served with my uncle 3768768 Sgt Dennis Henry Rowland MM 3 RTR KIA 7 APR 43 battle of Wadi Akarit and, apart from one story you put up about him, I am now left wondering what else you could have told me about him.........

Rest in peace in those green fields

Well done for reminding us Lesley. Our youngest Chindit veteran is 96 years old this week. We are all waiting to see what is happening with VJ Day right now and whether we can get any of the boys out to the commemorations.
