[sharedmedia=gallery:albums:788] hi all , finally got round to putting the photos when I went to the tower on my gallery , i've also included a few photos of the sunset over the Thames taken from the tower . my wife said the poppy should arrive jan/feb and I wonder when the first profiteer will stick the first one on e-bay. my firm had some special 100yr poppy badges made and I got 2 one each for my boys . I found out the other day someone had ordered about ten and sold them on e-bay for a score a piece , which is ok as long as a fare bit of the profit goes to the British legion but I am not holding my breath . cheers dave
http://www.forces.tv/83288286 Tower of London Poppies Targeted by Thieves Paul Cummins – the artist behind the emotive display at the Tower of London – says thieves have attempted to break into the lorries storing poppies before they are sent out to members of the public, all of which have paid £25 for each one. Mr Cummins, a Derbyshire-based artist, said: "When they were taken out of the moat, people were breaking into the lorries to try and get them... they have been trying to do this ever since we put them in. The proceeds of the poppies, sold by Historic Royal Palaces, the owner of the land on which the display was mounted, will be shared among several charities which support former servicemen and women. Over 17,000 volunteers spent many months installing the artwork with each poppy representing a British and Commonwealth serviceman who lost their lives during the First World War. eBay have threatened to remove any listings attempting to sell commemorative poppies on the site.
I see they've chosen Yodel as the delivery company. Now looking forward to a box full of red ceramic gravel...
Possibly. Need to call the giant blacksmith after a walk with a beardy geologist. But, seriously, Yodel?
They need Frank Ifield to help sort them out......teach them to Yodel....yodel.ae.he he..........Gosh, the Queen Mums song request has got a lot to answer for. That song used to drive me up the wall. At least not all Yodels are bad?
yup. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/412587/War-and-Pieces-Ceramic-Tower-poppies-arrive-at-homes-SMASHED-to-bits and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2851623/Outrage-delivery-company-ceramic-poppies-Tower-London-memorial-arrive-new-owners-doors-BROKEN.html
Watched this on Breakfast news earlier. Thought they might have gone out with the delivery driver too but they didnt. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30272811 Tower poppy: How you plan to display your poppy http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/30115782
I really hope that our fears are not going to come to roost but l have heard a very few horrific stories first hand that would make you worry from the 'picking' of the poppies to their dispatch, never mind the reputation of the chosen delivery 'experts', this despite a great deal of effort and exceptional care by the organisers and the great and vast majority of pickers. If yours does get damaged, will replacing it with an unused one have the same poignancy? I suppose what you do not know, cannot hurt you.
They arent packaged very well either, there was one think layer of bubble wrap and it was inside the think box - it isnt packaged inside a delivery box
Wife got her poppy it was delivered on 31st december , she didnt expect to get the stem aswell as the flower and as has been said previously the packaging isnt as robust as id thought but it is in good condition. Ive included 3 photos of it in my gallery with my other poppy photos if anyone wants a gander. cheers dave
My wife received an unexpected parcel from her boss on Friday. Fortunately, it wasn't the sack, but one of the poppies from the Tower. She, and some of her colleagues helped plant some last summer and this was their reward. A very nice gesture from her company.
If you couldn't get to visit the poppies at the Tower of London, thousands of the poppies used for the display have gone on show at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield, Yorkshire. Thousands of ceramic poppies used in the Tower of London installation have gone on display in Yorkshire.Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield will host the arch segment, also known as "Wave", until January. The installation in London last year marked 100 years since the start of World War One and drew more than five million visitors. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-34142625
I'm hoping to see one of the sections of the poppy installation at St George's Hall in Liverpool this Autumn. I bitterly regret not going to see the full-scale original at the Tower of London last year. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/arts-culture-news/tower-london-poppies-coming-liverpool-9753579
2 from Yorkshire Sculpture Park today. Weather a bit dull for photos, but will be going again. I think this will look great in light dusting of snow or frost, hoping for some good photo opportunities here over the next few months, it's here till January.P.S. might make it over to Liverpool if I get chance, they are having a display too, see Marks post above.
