My grandad was Private Stanley Cecil Lomax Army no 2052333 who served throughout the war but was capture and a POW in Stalag 13 for quite a long period of the war. I just wondered if anyone had any information they could offer to see if I could find anything else out about him. Thanks

    Hi again, and again welcome.

Again obtain your grandad's service records, I posted the link on your other thread regarding your other grandad, but here it is again: Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel.

Same advice goes here too, as much info as possible, including any details from letters you may have.

    From Ancestry:

    Name:S. C. Lomax
    Rank:Sapper
    Army Number:2052333
    Regiment:Royal Engineers
    POW Number:5150
    Camp Type:Stalag
    Camp Number:XVIII-A
    Camp Location:Wolfsberg, Austria
Record Office:Royal Engineers Record Office, Ditchling Road, Brighton, Sussex

More information could be obtained from the International Committee of the Red Cross: International Committee of the Red Cross

    Corinne welcome to the forum.
As Mark mentioned, the ICRC is your best bet plus also worth looking for a POW liberation questionnaire at the National Archives.

    Hi Corinne,

Your grandad is named in the caption under the bottom photo in this newspaper cutting from the Liverpool Echo. The photo was taken in Stalag XVIIIA or one of its attached work camps.

Hello all and thank you to each and everyone of you for your interest and help with regards to my quest for more information. I am particularly excited about the newspaper clipping as I had not seen this before but did have the info re the POW camp.

Once again thanks very much. Now to show my mum, his daughter, the wonderful newspaper clipping.
