My grandad was Private Stanley Cecil Lomax Army no 2052333 who served throughout the war but was capture and a POW in Stalag 13 for quite a long period of the war. I just wondered if anyone had any information they could offer to see if I could find anything else out about him. Thanks
Hi again, and again welcome. Again obtain your grandad's service records, I posted the link on your other thread regarding your other grandad, but here it is again: Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel. Same advice goes here too, as much info as possible, including any details from letters you may have. From Ancestry: Name:S. C. Corinne, Having just carried out a Google search for Stanley, I have found mention of him here: 13048/L, Waldenstein. Stanley Cecil Lomax Spr RE 5150 (possible); capt'd Crete
Corinne welcome to the forum. As Mark mentioned, the ICRC is your best bet plus also worth looking for a POW liberation questionnaire at the National Archives. Lee
Hi again Corinne, you are being well looked after by Mark etc with good advice. The ICRC (Red Cross) website can be found here: ICRC Archives Again good luck and do keep us informed. Mike
Hi Corinne, Your grandad is named in the caption under the bottom photo in this newspaper cutting from the Liverpool Echo. The photo was taken in Stalag XVIIIA or one of its attached work camps. [sharedmedia=gallery:images:23363]
Hello all and thank you to each and everyone of you for your interest and help with regards to my quest for more information. I am particularly excited about the newspaper clipping as I had not seen this before but did have the info re the POW camp. Once again thanks very much. Now to show my mum, his daughter, the wonderful newspaper clipping.
Hi Corinne Glad you like the newspaper cutting! That photo also appears on the Stalag 18a website http://www.stalag18a.org.uk/frameset.html. If the link doesn't work, look under Galleries, Gallery 3, Photo 109, where it is titled William Sturrock group. He may also be on some of the photos at the Tainach-Stein work camp http://www.stalag18a.org.uk/frameset.html
