Tunisia / Sidi Nsir "Then & Now" Some days back I had the chance to visit the old railway station of Sidi Nsir in Tunisia. It is now converted to an agrivultural co-operative but the builting, the rails and the trees are still there as they were in March 1943. If it is of interest for you, I wold prepare some nice "then & now" views and post them here... ...but first I have to unpack my lugage...
Fast becoming my favourite You Tube clip for the forum.
Yes please Kuno, love then and nows. Even if I know little about the action involved (such as this one) it inspires me to read up on it. Mike
Sorry for the delay... I will have to crop the pics first so that they fit exactly to the old photos. But tonight I have to urgently write an article for a magazine... something about an old truck. I ask for a little bit more patience...
@ Airborne Medic; your pic is much nicer than mine are. The railway station has been re-paintet since and is now used by an agricultural co-operation...
The Bundesarchiv in Freiburg has a very interesting series of German photographs taken after (or durng?) the battle of Sidi Nsir in Tunisia. On my recent journey, I had the chance to do some "Then & Now" photos but unfortunately, the sun was already very low, so that I could not do all of them. Maybe somebody else can do them or maybe I have the chance at another time. First the pics I could not do:
This photo shows a Panzer III, a captured Jeep and an Opel (or Mercedes Truck). The small building in front of the railway station seems to be the same as today - but maybe it is a new built one. This photo does somehow not fit in to the following series - maybe it was taken before the battle...
Here we have an interesting one. A VW "Kuebel" transformed to an ambulane car. In front a wounded British (or American) soldier:
These are damned Good Kuno, and not a theme one often sees them on, outside of After The Battle's pages. (I like the 'then' shots, not images I've seen before.)
