The war artist Eward Bawden painted and sketched at Dunkirk - one of his Dunkirk paintings of the Quay at Dunkirk 1940 is in the IWM pictures collection (now Drew will have to go see it! ) He was a member of the Royal Academy and served as a war artist throughout the war, after being evacuated with the BEF from Dunkirk he portrayed the war from North Africa, East Africa, Iraq and Italy. He was torpedoed and spent time as a POW in North Africa being liberated by the Americans
