Hey everyone, Hope that someone can help me out here. I'm looking for the war diaries of the following regiments for the month of April: 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade The Royal Regiment of Canada The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (Wentworth Regiment) The Essex Scottish Regiment. I've done some research within the online database of the library and archives of Canada, however there does not seem to be anything online besides the appendix for the RHLI for the month of April. Since I live in the Netherlands, visiting the archives won't be an option. Hope someone can help, Cheers!
I had a look at the Heritage Canadiana war diaries spreadsheet (which is in resources) but the brigade war diaries there end in I think August or September 1944. The division's war diaries are listed though. T-7611. But that doesn't answer the actual question.
Well if nothing else take a look at Project '44, fast forward to April 11 1945 and you can click on the units and then scroll up and down through the parts of the war diaries that have been transcribed there. I am able to look at the RHLI entry for April 11 there, for instance. Usually the war diaries incorporated into Project 44 are also digitized on the LAC website but maybe LAC fell behind. I find the site frustrating to work with, though - sometimes what I do does select a different unit but then winds the time to June/July 44.
Hey Chris, thanks allot!! The site is indeed a little frustrating to work with However, the site did provide the war diary of the RHLI, so that's one down. Another forum member also provided me the war diary of the ESR. Still looking for the war diary of the "royal regiment of Canada" Any info is welcome.
I came across this post and found the RRC April 1945 diary. See attached. Is this what you're looking for? Jim
