Transcription of original handwritten War Diary for September 1943 - Salerno Landings for the 2/5th Bn Leicestershire Rgt - 139th Brigade - 46th Division.

    Also includes:-
    Some appendices
Citations for DSO's and Military Medals awarded during time of landings.
Known casualties (and CWGC links) for September 43
Known wounded (Officers & OR's) based on war diary & missing personnel files.
Known Missing (Officers & OR's) and status if known including POW No's & Camp, based on war diary & missing personnel files.
Other Ranks known to be at Salerno (based on missing personnel files & citations)
Officers known to be at Salerno (based on Field Returns)
Officers absent from Salerno Landings (based on Field Returns)

The pdf file isn't that great (due to a old version of adobe on my computer), so also included the original excel file (which is also pretty poor as my excel skills are embarassingly bad) so people can use the info as needed.

    Please note:
Anything in Red - is where i have had trouble reading the handwriting on the original diary, and/ or information that isn't 100% and probably needs further confirmation/verifcation.
Anything in Blue - is extra info i've added (usually for my own clarification/ benefit).

If anyone needs to see any of the original files, then let me know and i will post up the relevant pages.

I haven't got any more War Diaries for the 2/5th Leicesters for their time in Italy, but i have ones for March & April 1943 (North Africa).

I do have a copy of their Missing Personnel File for Italy (WO361/853), and also the one for North Africa (WO 361/906).

I also have a copy of the book 'No Need to Worry' written by Peter Moore, who sadly died last year, who was one of the Officers who served with 2/5th Leicesters.

If you give me the name of your grandfather and any other details you have about him, i will have a look through them, and see if his names crops up in them.

    Cheers

    Scott
