Hi All. I am try to track down information on my granddad Robert Hodkinson T/62773. From his service records I see that he enlisted in the TA in Feb 37 and was called to colours in Sept 39. He was embodied to the BEF on the 11/04/40. Departed for France on the 12/04/40 and returned from Dunkirk 31/05/40. That is as much information as it gives me for his time in France. I would like to gain further information if possible of this period and I also understand that he was a despatch rider for part or all of this time which leads me to think he may not have served all his time with the 501 coy. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Mark
There's a 501 Company that went to France war diary for Apr to Jun 1940 but this is a AMPC diary (Pioneer Corps) not RASC.
Hi Drew5233. Thank You. Doing a little research I have found this: RASC were at Dunkirk as part of the 42nd Inf Division, responsible for Supply of Ammunition and Petrol. 42ND (EAST LANCASHIRE) INFANTRY DIVISION 42 Infantry Division Signals 42 Infantry Division RE 200, 201, 202 Fd Coys, 250 Fd Pk Coy 42 Infantry Division RASC Amn Coy, Petrol Coy, Supply Column [501, 502, 503 Coys RASC] 42 Infantry Division RAOC 42 Infantry Division RAMC 125 Fd Amb 126 Fd Amb 127 Fd Amb 501 coy ammunition is what I understand my Grandad was in. I have found a war diary which you posted in 2013 for SGT. Noel F Stockton - 42nd Division which covers the 503 coy RASC- WO/167/173 Do you think there will be one available for the 501 coy?
WO 167/173 is a Corps file so I think you mean WO 167/273? Ref 42 Div Ammunition Company this file is WO 167/272 it only covers May and I don't have a copy so no idea on the content or if indeed it is 501 Company but what you state makes sense. Regards Andy
Thanks Andy. Do you think you could get hold of a copy at some time and I will cover your costs? Thanks. Mark
