Blimey, that is some list you have there!

Does "4/Gordon Hghrs" mean the 4th Battalion, i.e. the ones that made it back to Dunkirk?

My dad was in the 1st Btn. I guess the diaries for them were captured with the men at St. valery?

Certainly surprised me when I typed them out! (they're organised into files on my HD and don't look half as many in their individual folders!)

Many 1940 diaries disappeared, but the majority were re-written (and are sometimes better than the originals) upon return to the UK. the 1st Bn diary covering September 1939 to May 1940 can be found at TNA under file WO 167/744 , and ,including the reconstruction, June 1940 - Dec 1941 under WO 166/4300.

    Nick, Andy.

I'll sort out your requests over the next few days when I get on my main PC (PS, Andy...for Wormoudt, I suppose you'll also be wanting the diary for the 4/Cheshires? Prepare to be disappointed BTW...not much mention of the massacre in any of them).

Cheers Dave I missed the Chesires on your list.

I have shed loads of information already on the massacre from the files at Kew and a couple of books. I'd like to know more about the battle before the massacre though-do they say much about the fighting?

    Andy

Then I can't wait and I'll put my proposed theard about the massacre and fighting on hold for even longer

I have lots and lots of pictures from my last trip a couple of weeks ago, I just want to make sure the text to go with them is accurate :D

CROONAERT, You must have masses if information! As you will gather I am very new to this type of research so forgive me if I’m being too naïve. I’ve been trying to do some research into 58th Chemical Warfare Company RE, what they were doing and where they were just before Dunkirk. This has come about because of a notebook and some press cuttings shown to me by my cousin who has been trying to find out more about its contents. From your obviously extensive knowledge do you have anything that might add to the information we have, most of which is shown on this forum in the 58th Chemical Warfare thread under 1940.
Probably a lot to ask but if there is anything obvious it will be most helpful.

Afraid I've got nothing that immediately jumps to mind that isn't already mentioned on that thread.

    sorry!:(
