Sorry - I should have posted this in a new thread which I have done here! Large naval picture libary If anybody here is ever looking for a picture of a warship from 1880-1970, I have a huge library at my disposal and would always be happy to send what I have on that ship either by email or post here. No matter how rare I can probably help.
Hello Cally, Thanks for your kind offer. I would be very interested in a picture of HMS Rodney. Many thanks, D Ed: Thanks anyway for the offer. No longer required.

Thanks very much Hoggene! Much appreciated. D Why I was interested ... 6 JULY 1944 ST MARTIN DES ENTREES “Swanning” was prohibited for the next few days in the area NORTH of CAEN and 32 Brigade, as preparations were being made for a large attack there. Parties of Guardsmen and sailors from HMS RODNEY could still visit TILLY and its neighbourhood, however. We were able to get some loaves of white bread from HMS RODNEY, in return for the “conducted Tours” a very welcome change from dry biscuits. 7 JULY ST MARTIN DES ENTREES 2300hrs We could see quite clearly the bomber attack on the German positions NORTH of CAEN - the prelude to an attack by 3 Divisions at first light. 8 JULY 1944 ST MARTIN DES ENTREES 04.55hrs The barrage for the attack started: and could be heard easily by us. Unfortunately HMS RODNEY had to leave the coast, as her guns were no longer of any use to the battle, and we missed the chance of going aboard.
Colly, I would be delighted if you could find in your collection a photo of the destroyer HMS Thracian , she fell into Japanese hands when she ran aground in the fighting for Hong Kong - my father eldest brother was attached to her for a time. Thank you. james S.
Colly, thanks for offer, for which I would like copies of HMS/m H.49 and also if possible HMS ELFIN Aka also NETTLE. Most grateful if you can find. Sadsac
Hoggene, Great pictures of HMS Rodney, both her and HMS Nelson were formidable ships with all the main armament forward. As a young boy I was told that the main guns were all forward as the RN would always be attacking and so only need the big guns forward! Regards Tom
Tom, couple of pic's HMS Nelson, you're right all her main guns faced forward, have info of her armour somewhere. Ken.
Hi cally, just wondering if you have anythong on HMS Bleasdale, ( my late fathers destroyer during the 2nd WW ) he was chief stoker after she was converted to oil, the only pics I have are small and taken after the war just before she was decommissioned.
I'd be interested to see a picture of HMS Malcolm during the Dunkirk evacuation (According to the Regimental history, she took my Grandfather's battalion off). Internet searches seem to show earlier pictures but none from May 1940 (probably too busy).
I'd be interested to see a picture of HMS Codrington during the Dunkirk evacuation, this is the shipthat evacuated my father from Dunkirk. Cheers Paul

Hi all. Sorry for the delay in replying but unfortunately I had to unexpectedly go away for a few days. It would seem however that Drew [andy] has managed to keep most of you supplied with relevant pictures. Anyway I will reply to all of you in turn. dbf was looking for a picture of HMS Rodney. I see a couple have been shown here for you. If you still would like to see more I have over 20 different pictures of her - some of which are very good. If you want to see them then PM me with your e-mail address and I will send them to you. recce mitch was looking for a picture of HMS Codrington. As well as the one kindly shown by Drew I have 5 or 6 others which again a PM request with email address if you would like to see them. mossman was looking for pictures of HMS Bleasdale. As well as the one already shown which I have in a larger size I have 2 others. Again PM if interested. richard payne Looking for pictures of HMS Malcolm - same as above. 2 others. This finally leaves: sadsac before I can proceed any further then I need a bit more information. You say HMS H49 - if 1940 or before then it will be HMS Diana using that pennant, of which I have a couple of pictures. From 1942 onward the H49 pennant was used by HMS Inconstant. Unfortunately I only appear to have one small picture. You next mention HMS Elfin - a tender and sometimes used as a torpedo recovery vessel which has now been preserved and which a picture has already been shown in this thread. I have 2 pictures of her including a larger one of the one already posted. During WW2 she was renamed HMS Nettle. James S was looking for a picture of HMS Thracian. I have the one posted here as well as one other picture. Anyway any other requests please post here and I will do what I can to help. Cally.
