Thanks SDP. I have Googled and it came up Ledbury so thought it was wrong. When was it renamed, after October '44 I assume as the diary states Samdak. Will look again then under Ledbury Margaret
Margaret Looks like it was first renamed to Alpha Vaal in 1947 by its new owners Moller. Built in 1943 as Samdak. All this from a Google web search.
Apologies to all who have tried to contact me over the past 6 months or so especially including Mike L who is a lovely helpful bloke. In short I have been unwell [Liver problem] and sadly my elderly mum has passed away which means I have had to spend a lot of time with my 87 year old Dad who has taken it understandably hard. I intend to be back on here soon as possible [as well as WNSF]. On my return I will try and clear up all oustanding requests for photographs.
Sorry to hear of your loss Cally and also your own illness, get well soon and hope to see you soon. Regards Mike.
Hello CALLY - are you still `on site' ?? Have been `away' for some time. HMS/m H.49 - a SUBMARINE not DIANA of which the PENNANT No. was H49. Sorry for `mix-up' ! Will look for ELFIN / NETTLE.
Hey there Cally, doing a bit of family research and currently focusing on the grandfather who served WWI/II and was KIA onboard HMS Lively 11MAY42. I have managed to find 4 photographs online of the Lively and possibly a fifth of her amongst other destroyers but wanting to see if you (or other members within here) have photos of the Lively from 1941-42? Appreciated, Pete
Hello Cally, Just come across your thread and thought it could be worth a shot - not really warships but landing craft if you have any photos of these. I am interested in any photos of: LCG(L)764, LCG(L) 831, LCG(L) 1062 and LCH-185 (all sunk off Sword beach). Many thanks Chris
Hi Chris, Cally does have some Landing Craft photos but it is not his main area. Might be worthwhile starting a new thread about these craft also explaining your interest in them. Good luck! Mike
That's correct. Dark navy blue belt with inflatable orange rubber life jacket in pouch. The 'naked' sailor is in fact wearing shorts. Tim
The man on the right of the picture standing on his own is only wearing shorts if the RN had skin tight Lycra in them days
I love how the civilians were allowed to wander all over the guns and range finders on Hood. "If you fall off it's on you!" Different times.
