An interesting snippet from the Merthyr Express newspaper of December 16, 1944 Rugby at Brussels: Among Welshmen who played in the services rugby match at Brussels between the army and RAF on Saturday was Sgt Ivor Wilcox (Welsh Guards, Army and Wales) both teams included many well known players. Sgt Wilcox is a soldier I am researching and I wonder if anyone has details of this game and possibly a team photograph.
He is mentioned on DBfs roll http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/46302-welsh-guards-unofficial-nominal-roll-by-army-number-order/ Recommendation here;- http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7399377 Piece here but not sure if its the same man ,I expect in a Welsh regiment there may be more than one? http://worldwar2database.com/gallery/wwii0069 Kyle
Sorry don't have much time to answer but these chaps have been helpful to others in the past http://www.virtual-shropshire.co.uk/welshguards/history.html
Hi Kyle You have the right chap, he did shoot up the tank; it is his rugby career I am trying to search but thanks for the links.
Hello from Canada. I own the medals of Sgt Ivor Wilcox, Welsh Guards (mounted and framed). Several photos of him in uniform and in WG Rugby kit, all kindly supplied by his family. Regards, Major Christian Borland OMRS 2792
