Saw this photo on a table in Hardwick Hall's Drawing room yesterday. The room-guide was busy with other visitors so couldn't ask her who was in the photo. Anyone know ? I haven't had time to look into it yet , thought it'd be quicker to ask on here.
Owen, Its a shame that you could not get a sharper quality photo! I'm thinking the Private may be Private R. Burton, V.C., 1st Bn Duke of Wellington's Regiment. There is a decent quality illustration of him in the History, buts its not a profile. This may be a silly question, but whats at Hardwick Hall? Regards Stu.
Couldn't get any closer, the table it was on was in a roped off bit of the room, photo taking with quite a bit of zoom. Don't think it's Burton, he was a Private. The chap on the right has one pip . As for Hardwick Hall in WW2, see this thread. Hardwick Hall Although that wasn't the reason we went.
Had a reply from the Collections & Engagement Officer at Hardwick Hall. She says.. Thank you for your email enquiry about the photograph on display in the Drawing Room.
