The Canadian version of programme had a short run - 2007/8 - perhaps they might think again - Diana Weston of Toronto granddaughter of major general CB Price:

Thanks Leslie, trailer for Reggie's story looks interesting. Don't know about you, but I didn't think much of Martin Shaw's story, but it was a good excuse to drool over him! Why do men get better looking with age, it's just not fair ;)

Aye he's still a lovely chap (loved him in Judge John Deed), although I'm a Dan Snow girl myself

Let's hope that the episode tonight at 9pm BBC1 with Billy Connolly perks up what I think has been a very disappointing series so far

Scottish comedian and actor Billy Connolly has always considered himself Scottish through and through but as he travels to India in the footsteps of his army ancestors, he makes an extraordinary discovery. Not only was his great-great-great-grandfather present at a pivotal point in Indian history, through him Billy's connection to India runs deeper than he had ever imagined.

I have to agree Lesley, it hasn't been up to scratch this series. I didn't have a clue who Reggie was last week to be truthful. Him finding out about his numerous ancestors was a laugh.

Looking forward to Billy's story, though I thought it would be more about Scotland. I'm intriqued about his Indian connections. He just did a gig in Perth the other night and it got rave reviews. I was sorry to hear about his diagnosis recently. I hope his wit remains with him a good deal longer.

Best episode so far. I must admit I nearly vomitted at hearing the brutality the British military inflicted on the Indians. Another disgraceful episode from the British Empire. We were barbarians. I was thoroughly ashamed to be British last night.

I was equally saddened to see the mental deterioration of Billy. I so hope that the medical world can find a treatment for some of these degenerative mental diseases in the near future.

It was a nasty business all round. But then again, while by no means condoning what happened, you have to look at the conflict in context. A major reason for the revolt was the imposition of British (Christian) laws and values on Hindus and Muslims. This included the banning of "thagi" i.e. the practice of gangs ritually murdering innocent travelers (from which the word "thug" derives), female infanticide and "sati" i.e. the practice of widows being expected to throw themselves on their dead husband's funeral pyre. Nineteenth century India was a savage and violent place. And don't even get me started on Afghanistan...

I visited Lucknow last year. As you saw, the remains of the old Residency buildings are very impressive.

Watched it tonight. It is very difficult to look at history based on today's morales. The world was a very different place.

What l thought great was the lack of expression in Billy's face but he just said exactly what he was feeling. Love that.

One of the side effects of Parkinson's Disease is lack of facial expressions. Billy was always animated but I can see a big difference in him now.

I agree and l am aware, but whilst it is very sad, it is a shame more of us are not so forthcoming. I loved the honesty. But also his braveness.

I also remember him in his heyday, very animated, well remembered.

I have watched this series since its inception, and believe that the trend recently has been more to concentrate on certain events etc in British history or social problems rather than on the family of the personality involved in the programme. They main person has become a conduit through which the programme makers are exposing us (the viewers) to aspects of history that they want us to 'learn' about, and we watch it because it is that person.

The last one was more interested in the 'Indian Rebellion', the effect on 1850 - 1870 soldiers in India of culture/health, Britains method of colony control and European/Indian cross marriages, the later also being a major part of Reggies background (European/African cross marriages).

These are purely my opinions, so I hope no one takes offence.
