He was posted to 53rd (London) Medium Assault Regt. (TA) in April 1944, and boarded LST 365 on 2nd June 1944 on the 'Hards' at Gosport, landing on Sword Queen Beach around 11am on the 6th June 1944 as an 'Observation Post Radio Operator'. >>> glew
Hi Owen, thanks for that, but I had already have that info, just wanted to know what other Regiments or commando's were aboard LST365. thanks again Keith
Hi Who was aboard LST 365 when it landed on sword beach on the 6th June 1944. Thanks Keith Keith, To know all units which where planned to land together with LST 365, we would need to know its Landing Table Index Number (LTIN). It should be either 383 or 385, which are the only LTIN (both LST mk II) to land elements of 53 Med Regt in the morning of D Day. For the complete list of units, with details of personnel and vehicles carried in those two LTIN, look at the full Landing Table First Tide here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/allied-units-general/42655-landing-table-first-tide-british-3rd-infantry-division.html I italicised the word planned above because this Landing Table is an early version and underwent many minor and some major changes, not all of which are documented. It therefore does not necessarily reflect the exact loading on D Day. It however provides a good overview of the units involved, eventhough there might have been some reshuffling of some elements amongst the various craft. Maybe some other information will help identify whether LST 365 was LTIN 383 or LTIN 385? Michel

Welcome to the forum meteor7man, and thank you for posting the photo of (at the time of D Day) Temporary Lieutenant William Newton Pickering, Royal Naval Reserve (seniority 24.2.41) (note that he was actually RNR, not RNVR). On D Day LST 365 was part of 5 LST Flotilla, LST Squadron, Assault Group "S" 1, and sailed wih Convoy S15. The excellent navsource website has several photos of LST 365: http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/16/160365.htm Do you (or does your wife) have any information on LST 365 on or around D Day, such as notes written down by your father-in-law, a copy of the log book, or even photos ? Any further information would be most welcome, and could help us determine her exact load and role on D Day. Thanks in advance, Michel
Well, it appears that we now have this missing piece of information. On this no so great quality, very short clip we see LST 363 unloading its vehicles on a Rhino Ferry, presumably p.m. D Day: LST 363 = LTIN 385! Therefore, if the Landing Tables dated 19 Apr 44 were not subsequently modified with respect to the first elements of 53 Med Regt being carried only by LTINs 383 & 385, and that LST 365 carried one of these elements, LST 365 must have carried LTIN 383. However, I have since found that later LSsT (LTINs 625 to 627) also carried elements of 53 Med Regt. They were planned to start unloading at H+16½ hrs, which does not fit with the statement in the OP, but loaded on 2 Jun, which matches Owen's post #2.. LST 365 was actually one of the three LSsT (LTINs 625-627) of Convoy S15, together with LST 364 and LST 412 (I can't find anymore where I saw this, but will try...). Michel
