This photo is from my Uncle Leslie's collection. He served with the RCASC in NW Europe. The photo is a glossy 6 inch x 4 inch with a typed inscription glued to the back. Not know where he got it.
Great photograph. I cannot start to imagine how the liberated peoples of Europe must have felt when they realised their days under the jackboot were over - mixed emotions, sure (ie, wondering what the future held, even some trepidation, as well as utter elation.) These kids would barely remember life in a free Netherlands (if they remembered it at all.)
