Hi Just managed to obtain the M.I.9 Form for my father, Royal Marine John Jardine. It states he was stone quarrying at Wildon December 1941 to April 1942. Wildon is near to the town of Leibnitz, just South of Graz, Austria. No workcamp number or other info. If anyone has heard of it or can provide any information, I would love to hear from you. Ian
240/L, Wildon Location: Wildon Type of work: Forestry It seems that there are some granite quarries in the area TD edited to add: There are also limestone quarries in the region Limestone quarries, Weißenegg, Wildon, Graz, Styria, Austria Limestone quarries, Weißenegg, Wildon, Graz, Styria, Austria
Ian Thats just from doing some google searches on various parameters associated with the facts - there may well be more Good luck with the trip, be nice to read what you find TD
TD I can't wait!! My father was also at Work camp 565/L, a farm at Hausmannstatten, Austria - see photo attached. It is the Legat family who owned the farm and, through the power of the internet and social media, I've managed successfully to contact the little boy standing in this picture - Mr Erwin Legat, the current owner of the same farm/buildings. He has agreed to meet so we travel next month.
From an earlier link frameset If you select work parties it gives you a whole selection TD edited to add: Some of them may have info on the work camps and perhaps your father, more connections to be made He's listed on the site above in Roll Call: John Jardine Marine R Marines 6829 Capt'd Crete, 565/L
