Hello I do not know if it is the right place to ask this. This is written in the exterior wall of my house, I live in the countryside near Arezzo Italian town in Tuscany. I can not understand exactly what is indicated thereon. They tell me that there was a big crowd of soldiers, perhaps a field? A deposit? I do not know. Any idea on what you can read in the wall? Thank you all for the help and sorry for my english
At the first glance, the second line could be AMCU - Anti-Malaria Control Unit? There are some war diaries but they are all under medical services rather than theatre so it's not clear which ones would be in Italy. The twentysomethings (if it's 2? AMCU) could match. Against that, the very small maps with this report suggest that malaria might not have been a problem in Arezzo. This particular unit might just have been passing through and that might explain the date, which looks like a single day: 21-4-45? Malaria was definitely a problem in some areas of Italy:
mau-ww2, Is there any open water near your house, maybe a pond, lake or ditch? I think the writing is a warning or reminder that the area has been sprayed with DDT. It would have been important to treat such places if there was a permanent camp in the area.
I have just found this reference regarding 13 AMCU. http://cres1.lancs.ac.uk/~esarie/images/dothsdad/uniform/ It also mentions Arezzo. Regards Tom
