Hi all, I'm doing some research on a former pilot member of 71 Eagle Squadron RAF, who later transferred to the USAAF in 1943 and spent the rest of the war as a fighter combat instructor in the USA. He died in Los Angeles in 2001. I'm trying to trace any living relatives, but have dawn a blank on genealogy sites. Does anyone know of any VAs that may have such information? I'd also like to contact any WW2 American fighter Pilot associations, but am having trouble finding details of such. Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks Adam
Just googling his name shows potential relatives may still be living in California, so perhaps try farcebook or twatter John Leo Nomis, age 29, North Hollywood, CA 91602arrow Background Check Known Cities: North Hollywood CA 91602, Redwood City CA 94062 Possible Relatives: John Stratton Nomis Nomis Facebook, Twitter & MySpace on PeekYou What is interesting is in a family tree it shows: Stratton Lee Nomis from tree Kiley Birth 9 Mar 1922 Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA Death 29 Sep 2001 Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California, USA Father Lee Ernest Simon (1890-1932) Mother Sara Geraldine Halvey (Born 1898) Note his fathers surname is Simon and the surname he uses is an anagram (Nomis) - strange Cant find a marriage and therefore children He was also part of 92 Squadron - Spitfire pilots and aircraft database - P/O Leo Nomis RAF
Hey, Thanks for that. One or two leads to follow up there - I really appreciate it! I know he got married to a Bonnie Swift in 1953 (or thereabouts), but don't know of children, either. Still, now have a couple more pieces of the puzzle to assemble. Adam
There is a record on Ancestry (US access) for the marriage and I do not have a subscription to access it. California, U.S., Marriage Index, 1949-1959 Marriage & divorce Name Bonnie T Swift Spouse Leo S Nomis Birth abt year Marriage dd mm year Los Angeles
His marriage to Swift ended in divorce on 12 March 1982. Marriage to Parham ended in divorce in Brevard Co., Fl 1945 Regards, Dave
Adam, I don't want to waste your time (and mine) with things you may already have. Are you aware of the 1932 incident which claimed his father? There are several full page articles, one showing your subject, "Stratton". They also go into the family's indigenous history with his grandmother, Allie Simon, talking about how she was the great grand daughter of a Cherokee chief. If you want this stuff posted, no problem. The LA newspapers also go into your subject in 1943. Plenty of pics of him, wearing both US and RAF wings. Regards, Dave
