WW2 Application for Medals and Stars question (Age Code)

    Hi Everyone
    I have been looking at the card for:
    Full Name
    Neal, Harry
    Service Number
    14428811
    Age Code
    53
    Award Date
    12 Aug 1948
    Type Of Medal
    1939-45; France & Germany; War
    Rank
    Private
    Regiment
    Parachute Regiment (Aac)

    Can Anyone help me with the age code, is this the age or is it a code relating to something else? any help really gratefully appreciated. He went on to serve in Palestine and is entitled to a GSM with clasp.

    The age and service group was used to determine when servicemen were released from military service, it is worked out from the year of birth and date they commenced service.
