Good stuff Steve, changed the thread title a little as the aircraft restoration stuff certainly interests me as much as the Vehicles. A considerably more serious business for the flying jobs when mechanical failure can mean plummeting from 1000 feet!
I can watch those chaps working at Duxford all day

here is a link to a few carrier restos that have been done / on the go
and the carrier Iam in process of getting ;)

    John Bizal's carrier

And finally my carriers. The first rust bucket is confirmed but the second and more complete mortar carrier from the link is in process of negotiation from John. Johns carrier has all the Upper Armour but driveline is in a bad way, roadwheels goosed and sprockets look cained. also carbs and engine components missing.... and Dons carrier is the opposite !

    Interesting sites Richard.

Looks like you've got quite a job on your hands there, best of luck with it & hope to see you roaring around Beltring one day.
Is it/they to be restored in Mortar configuration?

the mortar carrier would be restored to its mortar state the chap has got back to me minutes ago and wants $10.000 for her so by the time our greedy government take the VAT and the shipping costs, she is not going to be coming back ! the other carrier is still on the cards, she will be restored as per My grandads unit and she is a MK1 carrier, there is nothing within the hull to suggest she was a mortar carrier, and as the front armour is missing we will never know her number for sure. this is the problem with carriers people just cut em up....FOOLS ! Yes when done I will most deffinately be doing the Ring, she will be road legal and registered when iam done, however the tracks and sprockets are only good for 500 miles so wont be cruising her along the coast every sunny saturday thats for sure

yeah she is home half stripped down for the sand blaster. i may start a build thread on here if it would generate interest ?

i am still stuck on cammo used by RSF or KOYLI during the Italy campaign (Salerno onwards) and perhaps RSF cammo used in Persia.

i had an email back from the chap that wrote the books on cammo types but he only had a "possible" general cammo type used which was a sand and light green dpm type which does not appear in any shots of carriers in italy. it must be specific to the regiment as i know the Scots regiments had weird and wonderfull cammo designs.

Have you tried their respective Regimental museums or historians?
You never know, they might have something.
The Tank museum has to be worth a punt too perhaps. Can't help feeling if anyone here was sure they'd have said already...

I imagine many would be interested in a build thread, go for it.
